A primary school has been praised for its welcoming atmosphere, strong leadership, and pupil behaviour following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Waterside Academy in Welwyn Garden City, part of the Agora Learning Partnership, was rated as meeting the “expected standard” across all areas, with inspectors highlighting a “strong standard” for attendance and behaviour.

In the report, inspectors described the school as “a purposeful and respectful place where pupils get along very well” and said that “pupils receive a warm and friendly welcome each day” and “know that staff care deeply about their wellbeing.”

They also praised the school’s inclusive environment and its approach to behaviour, noting that “bullying is not tolerated” and that “staff address concerns quickly so that pupils continue to feel safe.”

Kevin Peart, headteacher at Waterside Academy, said the report was a reflection of the school’s community ethos.

Mr Peart said: "This report reflects the dedication of our staff, the positive attitudes of our pupils, and the strong relationships we have built with our families.

"We are particularly proud that inspectors recognised the strength of our behaviour, attendance and the caring, inclusive culture across the school, as well as the strong progress we are making as a team."

The Ofsted report also highlighted the quality of education at the academy, stating that pupils enjoy their learning and are “well-prepared for the next steps in their education.”

Early years provision was singled out for praise, with inspectors noting an environment that “stimulates children’s curiosity and encourages them to explore ideas.”

Leadership was identified as another area of strength, with inspectors commending the school’s clear direction for improvement and the effective partnership between leaders, governors, and the Agora Learning Partnership.

Mr Peart has served as headteacher since September 2024.

While the report was broadly positive, inspectors did identify areas for further development, including strengthening processes to identify gaps in learning and ensuring that targeted support is consistently monitored.

Waterside Academy is a one-form entry primary school for children from Nursery through to Year 6.
